The Safe Communities model used in Canada is based on the model used by the World Health Authority. A designated Safe Community believes that safety is a basic right and views designation as a public affirmation of its aspiration to create a safer life for all its citizens. Stakeholders set priorities for actions, identify ways of achieving targets, promote or run programs and then evaluate these activities. A safe community is one in which people and organizations have come together to do two things: to reduce injury and promote safety with the well being of all its citizens.
