REDBRIDGE SQUAMISH + KINGSWOOD PROPERTIES: SQUAMISH MURAL WALK SPONSORSHIP INTERVIEWFebruary 1, 2022NewsThe Squamish Mural Walk is a free, year-round self-guided tour of the 20+ murals in Downtown Squamish which includes new and existing murals. In 2021 there are SEVEN new mural installations painted, many of them made possible by sponsors like Redbridge Squamish & Kingswood Properties. We interviewed some of our 2021 Squamish Mural Walk Sponsors to find out why they chose to get involved and what they love about Downtown Squamish!
Redbridge Squamish is a new and upcoming development by Kingswood Properties that will be located at the water’s edge with unsurpassed views of the Stawamus Chief. With wellbeing at the forefront, this development intends to combine the restorative properties of nature with intentionally designed amenities to allow residents to enjoy all that beautiful Squamish has to offer. Redbridge sponsored #ColourAlley, a mural designed by artist Alex Fowkes located on Cleveland Avenue.
We were able to ask Lorne Segal, President of Kingswood Properties, a few questions about Redbridge and why they decided to get involved in the Squamish Mural Walk.
Tell us about your project Redbridge?
Redbridge by Kingswood Properties was founded on a single idea: to live well with nature, with each other, and with good health. This master-planned community is the culmination of a lifelong passion for bringing wellness into people’s homes and living each day to the fullest. That’s why we chose to locate Redbridge on the waterfront in Squamish.
What do you love most about creating homes in Squamish?
There is nothing like the feeling of ease and freedom that comes from nature. As the Outdoor Recreation Capital of Canada, Squamish is a year-round adventure playground. There are very few places on earth that move your soul like Squamish, and that is why we chose to build our homes here. It was our hope that homeowners would truly benefit from living here for years to come.
What is your best piece of advice for any new homeowner in Squamish?
Get out there and meet people! A community like Squamish attracts like-minded people, which is why we built a variety of social and communal spaces at Redbridge. There are also plenty of great outdoor activities to enjoy in and around Squamish. People tend to be open-minded and friendly here. It’s not weird to say hi to a stranger on a hiking trail, at the farmer’s market, or at Howe Sound Brewing. Like you, these people prioritize an active, outdoorsy, and unconventional lifestyle. You’ll have plenty to talk about.
What is your favourite business in Downtown Squamish and why?
Downtown Squamish is filled with so many great businesses. It’s hard to narrow it down. As adventurers at heart, we like to pop into Escape Route and Valhalla Pure on a regular basis. It’s also nice to explore the different vendors at the farmer’s market, try the latest treat at the bakery, or browse the shops on Cleveland Avenue. And you must try the real fruit ice cream at Alice + Brohm.
What inspired you to want to be a part of the mural walk?
We believe that public art is a reflection of a community and its surroundings. The mural walk works to cultivate a cultural identity by setting this community apart and attracting people to its uniqueness.
Artwork really helps express a community’s values, so we are proud to be a part of the mural walk and to have worked with award-winning graphic designer Alex J Fowkes to create Colour Alley – a vibrant new corner in Squamish!
Anything else you would like to add?
Squamish is a pace of life that puts health and happiness first. A feeling of belonging and a sense of purpose are two of the major ingredients of happiness. And this was our priority as we thoughtfully developed Redbridge.
The best way to explore the Squamish Mural Walk in Downtown Squamish is by simply taking a stroll with this self-guided tour. Experience the diverse local cultures, history, and heritage of Squamish dating back to 2000 at your own pace while tagging #downtownSquamish and #SquamishMuralWalk with your favourite artists.
