WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBOURHOOD TEAG + GRAYApril 4, 2022NewsBy Kerry Neil, ED, Downtown Squamish
From the outside TEAG + GRAY looks like a fashion boutique, and trust me as a fashion lover I could have spent my entire month’s salary there, but TEAG + GRAY is not just a fashion boutique, it is a safe and inclusive space, a place for anyone to chat about their hopes, their fears, their body…..it’s a place for laughter and a place for tears. In Teals’ words, ‘it has become a place where we can unapologetically be ourselves’.
And that saying rings true from the Owner, Teal is very much unapologetically herself. She is kind, open-hearted, driven, and forthright…..and how she does it I do not know, but she can just hand you a piece of clothing (that you likely will never know to choose for yourself) and it is more than often perfect!
Like many businesses, TEAG + GRAY was launched amid covid. So much so that it was during the early covid days that Teal was inspired to write her business plan. With changes in job circumstances and time to consider her options, Teal began to realize that these restrictions would not go on forever and she had a dream! So with full support from her family; husband Cory and her daughters Teagan and Graysen she dedicated her time and energy and began the process to launch TEAG + GRAY boutique (formally Spruce & Co.). It was not a walk in the park, there were a couple of large roadblocks but determination and a ‘nothing will stop me now’ attitude brought TEAG + GRAY to life!
The space is so welcoming, super cozy, and easily accessible, showcasing a beautiful selection of clothing for work, lifestyle, and play. Also offers a fine selection of unique gifts from books to candles, accessories, and beauty products.
Teal’s favourite thing about owning a business in downtown Squamish is the community she gets to serve. The daily validation from her customers is what drives her every day and the local business community has been so supportive.
Teal’s favourite moment so far has been deciding to do the rebrand shortly after the initial opening and rename the store after her daughters Teagan & Graysen. Opening the business brought back so many memories of when Teal became a mother that naming the store after her daughters was the absolute right thing to do.
Teal’s advice if you are considering following a dream to open up your own business, ‘Go for it! Life often throws big things at you, challenges you, but if you lean into it you can make it something amazing, just look around!’
If you have not had the chance to pop into TEAG + GRAY what are you waiting for? There is an amazing spring/summer collection on the shelves and as the world opens up its time ladies to address your wardrobe!
TEAG + GRAY can be found at 38167 Cleveland Avenue or visit www.teagandgray.com to find out more.
