WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBOURHOOD O’CALLAGHAN’S BARBERSHOPDecember 9, 2022NewsKerry Neil got to sit down with Liam O’Callaghan, the owner of Squamish’s newest and exclusive barber boutique, O’Callaghan’s Barbershop and asked him a few questions about what inspires him and why he loves owning a business in downtown Squamish.
Tell me more about you and your business?
I am originally from Toronto, I completed Barbering school in Edmonton and I live here in Squamish with my wife and two dogs. I recently opened O’Callaghan’s Barbershop here in town, which is locally owned & operated.
What inspired you to want to open a business in downtown Squamish?
I love what I do and I love this community! I already had many loyal clients who used to see me regularly for haircuts. I decided it was time to open my own shop as I had outgrown my previous place of work and I was ready for a new challenge! I wanted to create a positive environment for not only clients but also other Barbers. It is important to me to have a shop in the place where I live.
What do you love most about having a business in Squamish?
The community. I get to be a part of this fantastic growing & supportive community. I know many people here and care about every person who sits in my chair or walks through the door. The shop is an inclusive place to chat, share and be authentic.
What is your best piece of advice for any business owner?
Do your research and know your demographic. Stay positive through all of the ups and downs. Opening a new business can be challenging, but set the goal and just go for it.
What is your favorite memory of your business thus far or what are you looking forward to the most?
Favorite memory thus far would be launching the shop & the support we received not only from clients but from other businesses. I am looking forward to welcoming new and returning clients into the shop and continuing to build relationships with all of them. I have been very fortunate to meet many amazing people in this town, all of whom are welcome in my chair!
Tell me what other stores are your favorite to frequent in downtown Squamish?
Some of my favorite spots are Sunflower Bakery, Pizzalicious, The Sound Martial Arts, At Home Physio, Bisla Restaurant and Be Clean Naturally. I support other local businesses wherever I can.
Anything else you would like to share?
Just want to thank the community for all of the love & support that we have received. We want to create a spot that is not only a welcoming Barbershop to everyone, but a space where people can come and just stop by, hang out and chat. Mental health is very important to us and our door is always open.
O’Callaghan’s Barbershop can be found at 38019 2nd Ave or visit www.ocallaghansbarbershop.ca to find out more.
