WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBOURHOOD: PEAK PROVISIONS MOUNTAIN GROCER & GOODSJanuary 31, 2023NewsPeak Provisions – Welcome to the Neighbourhood
It was a pleasure to sit down with Martha, the sole proprietor of Peak Provisions Mountain Grocery and Goods, for a coffee and a chat in early January and learn about this exciting new business in Downtown Squamish.
Martha’s vision is to create a community-based grocer with a nod to the past, where the lunch counter is the place to meet, and I believe that vision is coming true.
The space has a European vibe, is fun and bright, and is a safe and inclusive place for all the community members to gather, shop and support local producers.
Martha has worked in the Food & Beverage industry all her life, with 13 years at the Vancouver Club and working her way up from the Dining room to Wine Director, and knows a thing or two about the industry. Martha is funny, warm, and welcoming and lives under the ethos of building community, with everyone being welcomed into Peak Provisions. “There’s no discrimination on your toque brand here!” laughs Martha.
Located on 2nd Ave, Peak Provisions Mountain Grocery and Goods provides locally sourced food, showcasing local producers and artisans in a space for the community in the heart of the community. Whether you are picking up a breakfast sandwich on your way to the trails, want to grab lunch with some colleagues, or end the day with your bestie and a chilled glass of wine, Peak Provisions appears to have it all.
There is a wide selection of specialty locally and imported cheeses, charcuterie from BC farmers, and ready-made butcher items from the Fraser Valley to Pemberton. They make homemade preserves, dips, and pickles and have a vast selection of dry goods for every occasion.
Martha has brought together a strong and qualified team working together to research, produce and serve quality goods to the Squamish community. Martha commented on how welcomed they have been to downtown Squamish. “We have just had amazing support from other businesses in the area, met so many new people, and we have learned so much already, and this is just the beginning….”
My go-to question in all these chats I have with new businesses is, what is your best advice for any new business owner? “Set your intentions, build a great team, listen, and be true to your values,” replied Martha.
